Tacoma Restaurants: Tacoma’s Best Breakfast Restaurants
In this article we share some Tacoma’s best breakfast restaurants.
Art House Cafe: Located in Tacoma’s Stadium District Neighborhood
While it was difficult to narrow this list down, we knew that Art House Cafe was for sure at the top. This restaurant opened in 2013 and we couldn’t be happier… going by how busy it always is, Tacoma agrees. If you have a party of more than 6 people you can make a reservation ahead of time, but we recommend you head there knowing that you’re going to have a bit of a wait. There hasn’t been a time where we haven’t gone to eat at Art House without them saying that there would probably be an hour long wait BUT, never fear it’s never as long as they say it will be. We recommend putting your name on the list, then taking a walk around the adorable Stadium District neighborhood, and taking in the views of the Stadium Bowl. This kitschy restaurant has an open, vibrant dining room, including our favorite aspect- the open kitchen. Watch the chef tenderly wrap together our favorite dish -The Classic, and ladle gravy over your amazing food. This restaurant has it all, healthy, unhealthy, and everything is delicious!
Cooks Tavern: Located in Tacoma’s North End Neighborhood
Cooks Tavern might be the least tavern-y tavern we’ve ever been to but once you taste the food, you won’t care what the name of this place is! With a quarterly rotating menu, you will never run out of new and exciting dishes to try at Cooks Tavern. The nice thing is that part of the menu is stationary, so there are always some delicious staples that you can return to time and time again, their eggs benedict are absolutely to die for delicious. Although there’s usually a wait for this popular place, the large dining room has ample tables, including patio seating during the warmer months. Boasting farm to table sustainability, we love that this large menu has savory and sweet options, it definitely has something for everyone.
Waffle Stop: Located in Tacoma’s Proctor District Neighborhood
Before Waffle Stop opened in Tacoma, we honestly had no idea what we were missing. This Tacoma breakfast restaurant is so cute inside, that you might think it’s a chain restaurant, but don’t be fooled this place is one of a kind and family owned! Located in the heart of North End Tacoma’s Proctor District, it is easy to find but you will probably have to park a block or two away. There are three types of waffles that you can get- the Pearl Sugar waffle, the Buttermilk Waffle, and the Southern Waffle. One of our favorite aspects is that you can switch to whatever waffle suits your taste buds the best. The menu has savory and sweet meal options, each one more delicious and piled high with goodies. We recommend adding blueberries to the buttermilk waffle for a breakfast you won’t forget!
Southern Kitchen: Located in Tacoma’s Hilltop Neighborhood
Known as “food for the soul” Southern Kitchen is one of Tacoma’s most well-known gems. It’s no surprise that many celebrities have graced it with their presence, this is one you don’t want to miss. Located in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood, this restaurant has been a staple for breakfast lovers for years. We absolutely love that the chicken they serve is free-range organic, from a farm in Yelm, it really doesn't get more local than that! You can taste the love that is put into every dish (made from scratch!), and be sure to pair your meal with their delicious strawberry lemonade. Don’t worry if you’re late to wake up and get out of the house, Southern Kitchen stays open for dinner as well, open 9am-8pm daily.
Tibbits @ Fern Hill: Located in Tacoma’s South End Neighborhood
This South Tacoma staple is the coziest neighborhood cafe that you ever did see. Tibbits is one restaurant that you will definitely want to make a reservation for, and probably keep the party small. A family owned and run business, we recently met with the owner Shawn Tibbits after an amazingly delicious breakfast and we even got a tour through the tiny kitchen that would wow even an amateur foodie. How Shawn and his team are able to make anything is absolutely mind-blowing! The menu is small and honestly we love that because you can tell just how much attention, detail and love has gone into crafting each dish. The food here is complex, and the presentation is stunning. Make sure you arrive with an empty belly and plan to take a nap after, because this food is rich! We recommend trying the Omelette- be sure to savor the brie on top!
