Tacoma Restaurants: Best Downtown Tacoma Restaurants

In this article we share our favorite Downtown Tacoma Restaurants.

Wooden City

Wooden City is hands down one of Tacoma’s best restaurants in nearly all aspects, and one of our favorites. Located at 714 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402, it’s easy to tell this is a popular spot as there is almost always a wait, even on weekdays. The food, staff, presentation, and even the interior design are all top notch.

Wooden City serves up great drinks and creative yet comfortable takes on standard American Cuisine. Popular dishes include their delicious Pizzas, the Tavern Burger and Lamb Bolognese. They have excellent appetizers as well like the jerk cauliflower, blistered hungarian peppers and chicken wings. All of the dishes are beautifully plated and served with good vibes by a great crew. We recommend putting yourself on the wait list, grabbing a drink next door at Odd Otter or across the street at Meconi’s, we promise the wait is worth it!

Sig Brewing

When people think of a brewery, they don't necessarily associate it with good food, but in Tacoma that’s changing. Sig Brewing, located at 2534 Tacoma Ave S, Tacoma, WA, is one of the exceptions to the brewery stereotype. Their kitchen serves up some seriously delicious bar food to accompany their extensive selection of craft beers.

Some standouts on the menu include their deviled eggs, fried Brussels sprouts, and house made pizzas, and don't forget to wash it all with one of their brews, like their Red cap or Vanilla Porter. We love that they’re open late and have a ton of seating!

The Matador

A favorite bar and food spot among locals, The Matador Tacoma's happy hour is not to be missed, featuring specials on their extensive selection of tequila and delicious Mexican-inspired dishes. The restaurant's vibrant atmosphere and attention to authenticity make it the go-to spot for a fun night out in downtown Tacoma.

With a team of experienced staff members, many of whom have been with the establishment since its 2006 opening, Matador Tacoma consistently delivers a memorable dining experience. Whether you're looking for a lively happy hour or a delicious Mexican meal, Matador Tacoma is the obvious choice in the downtown Tacoma area. Be sure to take advantage of their outdoor seating area during Tacoma’s warmer months!

Indochine

Indochine not only provides phenomenal Thai inspired cuisine, but they offer a tastefully designed interior dining room that creates some of the coolest vibes in downtown. Indochine serves amazing Thai and other asian inspired dishes, plated tastefully with excellent customer service and attention to detail.

The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the water feature running through the dining room with creative seating surrounding and beautiful teak wood accents. The service is attentive and friendly, and the food is always wonderful. If we had to dig up something negative to say, it would be that the prices are a bit high, but nothing out of the range of the other restaurants on this list.

Over the Moon Cafe

Over the Moon Cafe is the perfect date night restaurant if you are wanting to impress. This intimate restaurant located at 709 Opera Alley, Tacoma, WA 98402, is only open 5 days a week in the evenings and is always packed. We love Over the Moon for those special occasions- be sure to make a reservation!

The aesthetic is dark and luxurious, giving the feeling of an intimate atmosphere. We recommend trying the cheesy roasted brussell sprouts to start, then sharing the salmon filet and pork bolognese, although you can’t really go wrong with anything you try! The chef and owner Deanna has also perfected her paleo vegan cheesecake, you’ll be surprised at how good a healthy dessert can taste!

E9 Brewing Co. & Taproom

If you take a drive to the Southern End of downtown Tacoma, you’ll find another brewery on our list, located at 2506 Fawcett Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402. E9 Brewing is a newer addition to downtown Tacoma, and the pizzeria we didn’t know we needed. While parking may be a bit difficult to secure, you’ll find that there is an array of seating options either inside the main restaurant where you order at the walkup counter, outside covered seating, or directly in their taproom where you can watch barrels of brew be rolled in and out by staff.

This lowkey restaurant has high-key flavors, and a fun twist on pizza. We recommend the Upper White Trash pizza, which has white sauce, mozzarella, bacon, onions and then a surprise topping of crushed corn nuts! For the red sauce lovers The Radiator has mozzarella, pepperoni and lavender infused Calabrian chili honey drizzle on top, which will blow your taste buds away!

THEKOI Japanese Cuisine

Complete with a full cocktail bar and a happy hour from 2-5pm, the Koi is Tacoma’s trendy sushi and sake restaurant. This downtown restaurant is located near UW Tacoma at 1552 Commerce St #100, Tacoma, WA 98402. The aesthetic is extremely pleasing and there is plenty of seating, although it’s popular so there may be a wait!

We recommend the sushi of course, they have standard rolls, specialty rolls, as well as nigiri and sashimi. If you’re wanting additional fare, they also have dinner entrees such as teriyaki, katsu and short ribs. You might even meet the owner Tim, who is there most nights running food and greeting customers with a smile!
