Tacoma Movie Theater Guide
In this article we share our Tacoma Movie Theater guide.
The Blue Mouse
2611 N Proctor St, Tacoma, WA 98407
Located in North Tacoma’s proctor district, The Blue Mouse is not just Tacoma’s oldest movie theater, but it is Washington States oldest movie theater as well. This little theater opened its doors back in 1923, which makes it one of the oldest continually operating theaters in the country! Unlike most of the corporate movie theaters around the country run by large theater chains such as AMC, Century, Regal, etc the Blue Mouse is a small independently owned venue with only one auditorium. They generally show older movies that are no longer available at larger theaters, and also show classic movies from time to time.
Audiences can look forward to much more than movies with special events throughout the year, like their bi-monthly showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Blue Mouse also offers theater rentals which is used by local schools, business, and even just families for birthday parties or other celebrations. Patrons can rent out the theater and watch any movie of their choosing, which is pretty dang cool if you ask us. These rentals usually start at around $250 per hour, and then $75 for every additional hour, but check in with them to get more info on rentals and other special events.
The Grand Cinema
606 Fawcett Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402
The Grand Cinema is located in Downtown Tacoma, right next to the wonderful Corina Bakery. It is Tacoma’s home for independent, international, and local films. “The Grand” as locals call it, was opened as a nonprofit in 1997 with only two paid staff and a small group of volunteers. Since that humble beginning, the Grand has continued to add quality programming, film festivals, filmmaker outreach, community events, education programs, and talented staff and volunteers to create the awesome little theater. If you’ve been looking for a spot to catch that independent film you’ve been wanting to see, this is it!

The Regal Lakewood theater is one of the older corporate movie theaters in the Tacoma area. It’s a no frills chain movie theater that always has the biggest hits playing. It’s nothing special, but they probably have the most showings of theater on this list making it a go to when you’re in need of a movie night.

The AMC Lakewood Mall movie theater is one of the first movie theaters in the Tacoma area to have big comfy chairs. For years it was always the place to be and always had all of the blockbusters playing. Since the Century and Galaxy theaters opened with big comfy recliners seats, this place has been less busy, making it a great spot to sneak in when the others are too busy.
